Girl Moto Media

About Us

Welcome to Girl Moto Media. My name is Loren Turnbull and I am the founder and editor of Girl Moto. For most of my career I have been in business finance, marketing and copywriting. In 2015, at a time when I was reclaiming myself, I discovered motorcycle riding. It has added an enriching flavour to my life that is intoxicating. I almost shudder to think what my life would be without it.

Through riding, I am now connected to a tribe of female riders who I have the privilege to call friends. A network of fierce, strong, loving women who are there for me for the important moments. Riding, and my riding community, has gifted me the freedom, empowerment and fulfillment that I was searching for elsewhere, but had never found.

Creating Girl Moto

It is through personal experience, along with witnessing the experiences of other female riders in my East Coast Female Riders (ECFR) community, that I noticed the differences between male and female motorcyclists. At the core, men and women often ride for the same reasons. It’s our riding journey, and the riding environment that we enjoy, that is quite different. I noticed that women thrive when they feel nurtured, supported and encouraged. I love how women share and contribute to each other. I see their appreciation of being contributed to by other women riders who truly understand their perspective. I have watched their burning desire to be part of this sport, at the same time as losing their confidence or hitting a mental block that literally stops them in their tracks. I have felt the frustration of women having to mould and adjust themselves to the hyper-masculine aspects of riding, because the motorcycle brands or community don’t understand how and why we are different.

Female participation in the sport of motorcycle riding is growing at a rapid rate. There is an abundance of motorcycle content out there. In that sense, Girl Moto is nothing new. But much of it misses the mark in providing content that resonates with female riders.

Girl Moto is here to connect riders from around the world. It nurtures, it educates, it entertains. It proudly does that by showcasing content, experiences and opinion through the lens of female riders. It is the platform that brings the voice of female riders together. This is the place where we can show the motorcycle brands and community what we, as female riders, need from them. Until then, we will gain it from each other.

Girl Moto is proudly based in the Gold Coast region of Queensland, Australia. It does not matter where in the world you are, because we are made the same by our shared experience of motorcycle riding. If you identify as a female rider, or as a male or non-binary rider who supports female riders, then we are proud to call you “Girl Moto”. You are welcome here.
