Spotlight: Scott Stoodley – Bike Tour Asia

Scott Stoodley and Kylie Royal will forever hold a special place in my Girl Moto heart. When Girl Moto was barely a seed in my thoughts, I shared with Kylie, during an East Coast Female Riders dinner, that I had a vision to create my own motorcycle publication for female riders. I had just returned from riding the Mae Hong Son Loop in Thailand and was curating an article for another magazine. When I told Kylie this, she actively encouraged me to keep the article for myself and bring to life my Girl Moto vision.

But it didn’t begin and end with Kylie being the perfect cheerleader for my new venture. Kylie and her husband Scott are proud part-owners of Bike Tour Asia. BTA is a tour company based in Thailand. They specialise in motorcycle and culture tours in South East Asia and Scott holds a hands-on role in marketing and leading tours. Little did I know that Scott and Kylie had been discussing the rise of female motorcycle riders around the world. Both avid riders, Kylie had also experienced the joy of being part of a strong, nurturing female riding community at home on the Gold Coast in their native Queensland, Australia. Kylie knew, without a doubt, that BTA simply must work with the upcoming Gold Moto, to have a platform to showcase to female riders the opportunity to ride in South East Asia with a tour company who understands the needs of female riders.

Scott and his team set about sourcing a motorcycle fleet much more suited to the female rider. This includes smaller bikes that allow ladies to get their feet on the ground. Secondly, they were able to bring into the business Angkana, their female motorcycle guide. Let’s face it, sometimes the girls just want to ride with the girls. BTA curate tours for groups of men all the time. They have now bought together all of the right elements to curate amazing all-female tours too, one of which has been designed just for Girl Motos – but more about that another time.

Straight out of the gates, Scott, Kylie and BTA understood my “why” behind Girl Moto… why female riders deserve motorcycle content that reflects their female experiences. They understand that female riders are a growing community who deserve to be embraced and catered for. And on a personal note, Scott and Kylie were the first business to formally partner with Girl Moto commercially. What does that mean in real terms? It means they trust the Girl Moto vision and have been willing to support it with their business. I am very proud to call them my very first Girl Moto partnership. Any comments/thoughts/observations specifically about female riders or riding?

My wife had a nervous return to riding after a long time off the bike. Since getting back into it, she has gone from strength to strength in her confidence after her natural ability kicked in again. It’s enabled her to meet a completely new group of female riding friends, which has in turn opened the door on new experiences and good times. It’s a bonus that we can do so much more together now.

What is some advice you have for all motorcyclists?

Don’t overthink it.
Be aware of everything that is going on around you.

Any thoughts/observations/comments about Girl Moto?

A great initiative to provide such a platform giving ladies a source of info to allow them to safely and enjoyably get into motorcycle experiences. Im’s especially looking forward to partnering with Girl Moto Media to share our wonderful motorcycle and cultural experiences in SE Asia to their followers.
